Universal Teacher Training program: 8 weeks

21st January – 16th March 2008

 

Universal Teacher Training Program is a unique residential program conducted once a year.

The program trains the student in a range of yogic sciences- both practical and theoretical. The aim of this program is to train teachers who have exceptional knowledge in all important branches of yoga along with an introduction to true Indian culture and hospitality. Apart from complementary accommodation [twin sharing] and delicious sattvic food [ lunch and dinner only], there will be lectures and local excursions also.

 

 

Subjects taught:

 

Yogasana [5 days a week, 135 min]

Pranayama [5 days a week, 45 min]

Meditation [Twice a week, 30 min]

Kriyas [ 5 days a week 15min]

Yoga Sutras [20 -24 classes as per teacher’s discretion]

Sanskrit [12 classes, 30 min each]

Chanting [12 classes, 20 min each]

Bhajans [5 days a week, 30 min]

Svadhyaya [serious self study, 5 days a week, 60 min a day]

Basic elements of yoga therapy [08 sessions of 45 min each]

Basic elements of flexibility improvement [once a week, 60 min]

Theory classes as prescribed by the teacher.

Intense Residential Teacher Training Program

18th August- 17th September [ 30 days]

Common Program Structure:

 

1.    Asana [Guided/self/ teaching Practices]:2.15min Guided practice

2.    Pranayama [guided and self practice] 45 min a day, 5 days a week guided practice, Saturday self practice

3.    Svadhyaya [self study of scriptures] 60 min a day, 5 days a week

4.    Prayer [Devotional songs/ Sanskrit chanting]:45 min a day, 6 days a week

5.    Yoga sutras of Patanjali: 12 lessons

6.    Sanskrit Pronunciation: 20 min a day, 5 days a week

7.    Theoretical classes: As suggested by the teacher

 

Accommodation, food, relaxation: Simple hygienic accommodation on twin sharing basis and Indian sattvic food[ lunch and dinner only] will be provided as a part of the program. Apart from this, there will be two short trips to near by tourist spots to relax your mind.

Yoga Therapist training program

Starts 13th November 2008, Duration 10 weeks

An opportunity to study and practice the techniques of yoga therapy

Atmavikasa Yoga Therapist Program aims at training Yoga therapists who have a thorough knowledge of therapeutic applications of various yogic sciences. A range of subjects that enhance the understanding of the states of body and mind are taught in detail. The duration of the program is 10 weeks.

Includes 8 weeks of learning and 2 weeks of apprenticeship at the Yoga therapy Kutira.

Common Admission Procedure for all programs

 

The admissions generally open 90 days before the scheduled date and closes 30 days before the beginning of the program.

 

 Please send the following details in full to atmavikasa@hotmail.com  or atmavikasa@gmail.com

 

 

a.    Name, age, country of residence. Practice experience [in detail]. Teaching experience[ if any]

b.    A recent photograph of yourself performing an asana that you consider as your best. The face should be clearly visible

c.     Please give a full mentioning of your health condition, injuries etc

 

 An admission confirmation/rejection letter will be sent to you with in a week’s time. Atmavikasa has all rights to either accept or reject your application. Each application will be personally scrutinized by Acharya Venkatesha.

 

If accepted, the course fee should be fully wired to us within two weeks of receiving the notice. Your admission will be confirmed only after receiving the deposit. The deposit once sent will neither be refunded nor re-adjusted under any circumstances.

Certification

Atmavikasa Certificates are valuable. We do not sell them.

You will truly earn it only if the performance standards are met.

Certificate is issued based on your class room practice performance, your sincerity, diligence, and most importantly your effort, discipline, active participation, ability of practical application and interest. In the end, there will be a practical examination, a question answer session and a written exam if needed

Code of Conduct for Teacher Training Program

 

The following rules are very strictly followed in our shala .Any violation will attract serious actions including DISMISSAL

Expected Behavior during the course duration:The student is expected to be sincere, hard working and obedient during the course. He/ she should have due trust and respect about the teacher and the system. It is very important that the student listens to the teacher with due attention and care and follows them with respect and zeal.

  1. The teacher should be addressed respectfully as “Acharya” [= Teacher].
  2. Please do not touch the teacher for any cause. All the doubts, complaints etc should be discussed with the teacher in a polite way after the class. No kind of disobedience is allowed in this institute.
  3. Do not talk during the class. Mind your own practice and do not compare yourself to others
  4. Be punctual. Follow the time precisely. Come five minutes early and wait outside silently without chatting with others.

 NOTE THIS CAREFULLY: Unless for very solemn reasons If you miss the class for three days with out notice or four days with notice [ A minor stomach upset or fever is not considered as a valid reason], NO CERTIFICATE WILL BE AWARDED. However, the teacher may allow you to continue practicing till the end of the course. Also, if you are late to class, once the prayer is over, you will not be allowed to practice that day. Three such late entries will disqualify you from obtaining a certificate. However, you can continue practicing.

  1. IMPORTANT: STUDENTS WHO ARE PARTICIPATING IN A TEACHER’S TRAINING PROGRAM CANNOT STUDY ANY OTHER SYSTEM/ WITH ANY OTHER TEACHER during the course period. This is because the course requires your full time and attention. IF YOU ARE FOUND LACKING IN DISCIPLINE OR ATTENTION, you will be disqualified after issuing three warnings. No REFUND IS DONE IN SUCH CASE
  2. In this institution a decent and dignified behavior is demanded out of the student. Hence loud chatting, jeering, hugging your partner /others and the like are strictly prohibited in the institute premises.
  3. Unless for solemn reasons, leave the practice place within 5 min after finishing the practice.
  4. You should   follow the dress code of the institute. Change your clothes in the dress changing room only.
  5. DRESS CODE:  Women-  Long trousers[ proper fit. neither too loose nor too tight Men- Long trousers] and Atmavikasa T.SHIRTS ONLY [ for both]
  6. Full course payment should be made before the commencement of the program. The classes will not begin till the payment is made.
  7. Discuss about the course before getting admitted. We are not responsible for your prejudice.
  8. Money once paid will neither be refunded nor be transferred under any circumstance.
  9. Maintain a time lag between food intake and asana practice [ 4 hrs for solid, and 1 hr for liquids.]Please do not drink tea or eat break fast before your asana / pranayama practices .We are not responsible for any stomach upsets or severe cramps that you may go through in such cases.
  10. HOLIDAY: Generally, except for a few classes, there is no class on Saturday and Sunday is a full holiday. BUT in special cases, you may be asked to come on the week-ends instead of other days. Be fully prepared for such cases. Apart from that, there will be a holiday on prominent Indian festivals. No alternate classes will be provided for such days.
  11. Self Practice: The teacher may some times ask you to do self practice for a few days in his presence/ absence. This is a method to assess your seriousness, attention and ingenuity .So take them seriously as they count heavily towards the certification.

Additional Important Information

All residential programs include free accommodation with basic furnishings

Flights/ personal amenities are not included

You can book accommodation / Escorted airport pick up / home cooked delicious Indian food through us at an additional cost.

 

READ VERY VERY CAREFULLY..

 

1.   Minimum qualification: 1 year consistent practice [self/ guided] in any system. Should be able to sit on floor with erect spine for at least 45 min.

2.   Regular reading habit is a must.

3.   Be prepared to walk a few times to the shala

4.   Do not keep any engagements during the program. We need your 100% attention and Time.

5.   You cannot study with any other teacher during the program. No certificates will be awarded if you are found doing so. You may even be expelled without refund. This is only to secure your attention and time. We are not against other systems/ teachers.

6.   We have full authority to modify the schedules. Please do not complain or request modification.

7.   Following the code of conduct and dress code are mandatory [ refer to them below]
